Rehearsals for a new play have begun at the Serbian National Theatre: “Jacques or Obedience” by Eugène Ionesco, directed by Strahinja Bojović.
“At the center of the dramatic plot of the play “Jacques or Obedience”, which is defined as an absurd drama in terms of genre, is Jacques, the child of his parents or the parent of his parents. Not knowing any other way of communication, his parents indulge him and thereby reinforce Jacques’s arrogance, even spoiledness. Jacques is a philosopher. His thoughts on life are atypical, his associations abstract, his disappointment in his parents genuine – until the moment when the character of Roberta appears in his life. Roberta is a weapon, part of the plan, Roberta is a conspiracy,” said director Bojović at the first rehearsal.
In addition to director Strahinja Bojović, the members of the author’s team are: set designer Željka Jakovljević, costume designer Staša Jamušakov, composer Marjan Babić and assistant director Marija Ašanin. The play will feature: Andrija Kovač, Gordana Đurđević Dimić, Jovan Torački, Sara Simović, Tijana Maksimović, Dušan Jakišić and Nina Stamenković.
The premiere is planned for December 26th at the Chamber Stage.
