Serbian National Theatre Ballet at the Visavi Festival in Gorizia, Italy
Published: October 17, 2025

On October 16, the Serbian National Theatre Ballet performed on the program of one of the youngest, but also the most interesting contemporary dance festivals held in parallel in two cities – Gorizia, Italy, and Nova Gorica, Slovenia.
The Serbian National Theatre Ballet performed the play “Tell Me About Love” on the stage of the Teatro Verdi in the center of Gorizia. At the same time, this is the first visit to Italy for our ensemble, and Gorizia is the European Capital of Culture this year, which makes this participation and meeting with the audience even more significant. The Visavi Festival was founded in 2020, with the ambitious idea of a rich program that conquers all available stages and spaces in the two cities. Parallel programs include a series of choreographic workshops and bring together young dancers from Italy and Slovenia every October. Since the first edition, the synergy between the Belgrade Dance Festival, led by Aja Jung, and the Visava Festival, led by Walter Mramor, has contributed to the creation of programs and the animation of numerous troupes. This is the case again this year, when the Visava Festival is hosting the Greek National Opera Ballet with the performance “Golden Age”, which was performed this year at the Serbian National Theatre as a co-production of the Athens Opera and the Belgrade Dance Festival. There are also the Zappala Danza troupe from Catania, Gauthier Dance from Stuttgart, the Zebra Company, but also many important choreographers that the Belgrade and Novi Sad audiences already know from previous editions of the Belgrade Dance Festival. The contemporary piece “Tell Me About Love”, which premiered in March this year on the Grand Stage “Jovan Đorđević” of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, is the work of two choreographers. The first part, “Elegy” by choreographer Enrico Morelli, tells an emotional story through movement, with music by Frédéric Chopin and poetry by Mariangela Gualtieri. In poetic and visually sumptuous expression, the ballet ensemble subtly portrays the deepest human feelings.
The second part of the performance is followed by “Balcony of Love”, a work by Itzik Galili, in which the rhythms of Pérez Prado, wit, acrobatic movement and striking stage aesthetics create an unusual, dynamic and charming ballet experience. A special mark is left by the ballet master Andrei Colcheriu, who opens and leads this energetic piece with his stage presence. “Tell Me About Love” is an artistic undertaking that had the task of introducing the Serbian National Theatre Ballet to new choreographic forms and manuscripts, and confirming the openness and courage of the ensemble to step into the future. At the same time, it is the first evening that earned encouraging criticism from the Milanese magazine Danza e Danza, which further announces our ensemble on international stages.
