This cult cantata by German composer Carl Orff has been on the repertoires of European and world opera and ballet houses for decades non-stop. Orff found the text for his most popular piece, named Cantata profana, in the 13th century medieval collection of the same name from the abbey of Benediktbeuern, which consisted of a collection of songs of travelling friars and vagabonds, idle students and singers; juicy, often erotic, spicy verses on love and nature; a carefree hymn to the joy of life and the human eternal pursuit of happiness. What makes Carmina Burana a constant artistic challenge is its very universality as well as the incredibly contemporary music expression. In the new staging, it is envisioned as a total spectacle, where besides ballet, both choir and soloists actively participate in the stage and dramatic action in the same way that Carl Orff noted in his drafts for the 1937 premiere of this work.
Performance Carmina burana is the first international project of the Serbian National Theatre Opera in collaboration with NUOVO TEATRO COMUNALE 01 BOLZANO (Italy).
